Translation technologies

Language technology and computer aided translation tools (so-called CAT tools) are an important aspect of translation management. Specialist tools and translation software are used to ensure the consistent use of terminology in repeated or recurring segments. CAT tools complement the translator’s existing knowledge by displaying previously translated segments in a translation database, the translation memory. Terminology databases are another available tool. This technology means that a translator not only saves sentences and segments, but a full glossary can be integrated. The translator can then immediately see which term to use for your company, and which terms are to be avoided. It’s easy to send us your glossary (we generally receive them as excel files), and it’s even easier for us to apply it to your translations. CAT software programs are not to be confused with machine translation tools, such as Google Translate or Bing Translator. Machine translation should only be used with caution, and it virtually always needs very thorough post-editing. We mainly use SDL Trados Studio and MemoQ but have also, among others, worked with:

  • Wordfast
  • Omega T
  • Across
  • Po Editor
  • Transifex
  • XTM

Do you have your own translation software, a self-developed tool or a specific translation editor? If requested, we can work with your tool. Please let us know the details and we will see what we can do.
